Number 300032 and Mum~The highland cow is to be spotted all though the highlands of Scotland this picture taken on Mull at the head of Loch Scridain is of a calf which would only be a few days old at the time. The highlander is the main cause of traffic jams on Mull as they roam over the fenceless single track roads. Common now the browner shades of cow replace the black cows which would have been the normal generations ago.~The highland cow is to be spotted all though the highlands of Scotland this picture taken on Mull at the head of Loch Scridain is of a calf which would only be a few days old at the time. Sun setting from Iona~Taken from the Dun on the west of Iona this picture is a summer sunset. Tiree and Coll can be made out on the horizon with the islands of Reidh Eilean silhouetted in the foreground. Reidh Eilean is made up of the same rock as Staffa including some basaltic columns. The Dun was one of the iron age forts scattered throughout the west of Scotland. Atlantic Storm~Atlantic StormThe winters on Iona are usually very mild due to the Gulf Stream bringing warm waters direct from the Caribbean but this prevailing direction of weather can also bring strong winds and high swells. This picture taken on the west side of Iona was taken (with difficulty, David could hardly stand) in the winter a couple of years ago. A few days later the wind was recorded at storm force 11 a few miles away on Tiree.~The winters on Iona are usually very mild due to the Gulf Stream bringing warm waters direct from the Caribbean but this prevailing direction of weather can also bring strong winds and high swells. Iona Abbey~This world famous view of the abbey on Iona shows the aspect of the abbey as you would have seen it as you approached it centuries ago. The road way, known as The Street of the Dead, is an extension of the ritual processional way the dead chiefs and some kings of Scotland, Ireland, Norway and even France were carried on the island from the landing place to their burial in the Reilig Odhrain. This picture was taken before the main tower of the abbey was surrounded in scaffolding to allow renovations to be continued by Historic Scotland.~This world famous view of the abbey on Iona shows the aspect of the abbey as you would have seen it as you approached it centuries ago.
