Jana Zettier - Breagh~
Breagh Iona was founded by Jana Zettier in 2004.
Originally Jana came to Iona in September 2000 to work for three years for the Iona Community. She fell in love with the beauty of the island, its people and with her husband.
Now Jana is working part time for the local silversmith.
Inspired by the amazing variety of colours and shapes of Iona's stones, Jana started developing her own range of jewellery. Working with carefully chosen stones, from beach pebbles to the famous Iona greenstone, Jana creates individual necklaces, each telling their own story of the journey from sea to shore. All stones are put through a lengthy process of tumbling and polishing; continuing the ancient rise and fall of the tides to bring out their beautiful colouring.
Jana is also a passionate candle maker. The vivid blues and turquoises of the sea and the ever changing colours of the sky are the continuous source of inspiration for Jana's range of candles.
Since August 2006 Jana has now got wee Leanne, who makes her live richer but even busier. So please bear with her if there is only a very limited range of products online - during the winter she hopes to get more products made.

The Necklaces~
Iona Marble

Iona marble has a distinct green and white colouring. The green serpentine led to its other name- "Iona greenstone". From as early as the 1700s onwards local children on Iona sold pieces of Iona marble to island visitors. In the 18th century small polished pieces of Iona marble were much prized by both collectors and jewellers. For centuries Iona marble has been said to be endowed with supernatural powers such as healing powers, protection against shipwreck, fire and miscarriage. Whatever you may appreciate it for, may it bring you good luck, good health and a lifetime of peace.

Each stone used is as distinct and unique as the island itself and thus may vary in shape, colour and size.

Iona Stone Pendant~

Iona stones are amongst the oldest rocks in the world and if you ever have a chance to come to Iona you will almost certainly not be able to withstand the temptation to pick up a stone and take it home. Whether it is mica speckled schist, black mudstone with white quartz veins, red granite, quartz, flint, gneiss, banded agate, red jasper, moss agate …..On no other island will you find such a stunning variety of stones, so beautifully coloured, and shaped by the sea.
